Words of a brick wall
Won't
Can't.
Those words make me think of a brick wall.
Every time I put pen to paper or fingers to keyboard it’s a battle with a tornado of thoughts, most of which are disconnected.
Can't and won't.
I am not a trained writer, I am actually a…wordophobe. See, I'm dyslexic and for someone with dyslexia, writing is a scary vortex. Whenever I get people to edit my work the most common query is 'Um, what were you trying to say there? I think you had a few thoughts in that one sentence'.
So why do I write this journal entry? It's simply to say: don't put yourself in a box.
You wouldn’t tell a Paralympian they can't play the sport they love or tell a dear friend that they can't keep going – you would give them a hand up. So treat yourself as you would a dear friend and give yourself credit for daring to risk vulnerability.
The next time you go to say never mind, I tried, instead say: ‘Well done’ and ask yourself: what did I learn?
Dyslexic, wordaphobe who's working on not saying ‘can't’, signing off.
